Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Postdoctoral position on simulation of nanoparticle-based catalysis of the CO2 reduction reaction

There is an opening at Aalto University, Finland, at the postdoctoral level to work on identifying new electrocatalysts based on metal nanoparticles for the conversion of CO2 into methane and methanol. The project involves both finding stable structures for the nanoparticles and modeling the electrochemical reactions. This is a joint position between the groups of Dr. Miguel Caro and Dr. Xi Chen, at Aalto, and is cosupervised by Prof. Hannes Jónsson at the University of Iceland. Mobility exchanges to Iceland will be possible once the current international travel restrictions ease up.

The composition space for the new catalyst nanoparticles is focused on novel Cu-based alloys. Our methodology involves development of machine learning force fields trained from DFT data, global search algorithms for finding stable nanoparticles, and hybrid simulation methodology for finding the mechanism and rate of electrochemical reactions. The successful candidate is expected to be proficient in at least one of these areas, whereas familiary with the other ones is advantageous.

Funding for this position is available for at least 1.5 years, with a circa half year extension likely. Further extensions are contingent on funding availability and mutual satisfaction. The starting date is as soon as possible.

To apply for this position please follow this link. Informal enquiries can be sent to Dr. Miguel Caro ([email protected]); please feel free to contact us if you are unsure whether you are quilified for the position. There is no application deadline, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. If you are interested in applying but need more time to prepare the application you can contact us to express your intention, so that we do not miss your application.
