Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Quantum Matter and Functional Materials Research Modelling Group (https://www.claudiocazorla-physics.com) lead by Dr. Claudio Cazorla at The Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain) is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar to perform theoretical modelling and simulation of multicaloric effects in ferroelectric and hybrid organic-inorganic materials. Multicaloric effects are associated with crystal phase transitions presenting large entropy changes, and can be exploited to engineer energy efficient and environmentally friendly solid-state cooling technologies. The postdoctoral scholar will use first-principles methods based on density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations to predict and estimate the size of electrocaloric and barocaloric effects in a wide variety of multifunctional materials.

The postdoc will have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science, and demonstrated experience in computer modelling of materials (quantum and/or classical techniques). The postdoc will be directly supervised by Dr. Claudio Cazorla and will work closely with an experimental and multi-disciplinary team in the Department of Physics at UPC (Barcelona, Spain) lead by Prof. Josep Lluis Tamarit by providing complementary expertise to the experimental characterization efforts.

The conditions of the postdoctoral position are the following:

Duration: 1 year and a half (with the possibility of renewal)

Salary (gross): 29,000 euros/year

Start date: January 2021 (or February 2021)

Location: Barcelona (Spain)

Institution: Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC)

Department: Physics

Applicants must submit to the email address [email protected] the following information:

- a cover letter outlining how they meet all the required qualifications

- a curriculum vitae with a list of publications

- the names and contact information of at least two referees who are very familiar with the candidate’s  scientific work.
