Postdoctoral position in DFT calculations of met ... (No replies)
Back to Job listings...
Starting 1st Oct, 2016, a 2-year postdoc position will be available in the field of computational materials science at the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Idaho, under the supervision of Prof. S. Choudhury. The position is funded by the US Department of Energy. The project aims at developing ab-initio and/or atomistic informed phase-field model (a microstructural level computational tool) to develop high performance metallic nuclear fuels for fast reactor applications. The computational work will be performed in close collaboration with experimentalists at the University of Idaho and one of the US National Laboratories.
Job description:
The postdoc will perform ab-initio calculations to determine thermo-kinetic parameters for metallic fuels. Calculations will also be performed in order to screen dopants to mitigate detrimental effects of lanthanide fission products in metallic fuels. Given the multi-scale nature of this project, the candidate will have excellent opportunity to learn about other atomistic and continuum scale simulation tools. Besides performing ab-initio calculations for metallic systems the postdoc will spend a small fraction of his/her time to perform ab-initio calculations for other energy materials.
Qualifications:
The candidate is expected to have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science or related field. In particular, experience in electronic structure calculations of strongly correlated electrons is preferred. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in electronic structure of materials. Motivation to learn new computational tools to design novel materials is desired. US citizenship is not required for this position.
Applications:
All applications will be given immediate consideration and the search will continue until the position is filled. Candidates should submit a full CV and a brief letter of intent (< 1 page) describing past research experience and computational expertise to Prof. S. Choudhury ([email protected]). Shortlisted candidates will be contacted separately for a Skype interview.
