Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Physics Department at Virginia Tech invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in theoretical condensed matter in the group of Prof. Kyungwha Park, with a focus on electronic structure and magnetic properties of point defects in different silicon carbide polytypes within and beyond density functional theory. Such defects in silicon carbide have been shown to be useful for applications in quantum information science, similarly to nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. The position is available starting from October 2020 or later, and is renewable for one additional year after the first year, upon mutual agreement. The position is open until filled. Collaborations with theorists and experimentalists at Virginia Tech and different institutions are expected. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics or a closely related field, and have knowledge in electronic-structure calculations, spin-orbit coupling, magnetism and ab-initio methods beyond density-functional theory. Experience in code development is desirable. Interested candidates must electronically submit online application, curriculum vitae, a brief description of their research interests (up to 2 pages), and the names of three references (including contact information) at http://www.jobs.vt.edu, referring to position number 514275. Virginia Tech is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
