Applications are invited for Postdoctoral Researchers in the Mathematics for Advanced Materials Open Innovation Laboratory (MathAM-OIL) at Tohoku University. The MathAM-OIL is a research laboratory to focus on the study of advanced materials by computational science, information science, measurements, mathematics, and theoretical physics. The purpose is to investigate complex structures, functions, and fabrication processes of soft materials, 2-dimensional atomic layer materials, and amorphous materials. The backgrounds and research fields of the members are broad: molecular dynamics and first-principle DFT simulations, machine learning, image analysis, network analysis, TEM measurement, mathematics, and theoretical physics. At this time, we are seeking motivated candidates to study, for examples, one of the following topics:

- molecular dynamics or first-principle DFT simulations

- machine learning and data science, including image analysis and network analysis

- TEM measurement

However, highly motivated candidates from any field in applied mathematics and theoretical physics are welcome.

The MathAM-OIL is set up at 30 June, 2016 for a collaboration between National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR), Tohoku University. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact and work with the researchers in all of the above fields.

The few positions are for a year, renewable for every year until 31 March, 2025. Because of Covid-19, a chance to come in Japan from foreign countries is very limited. We can start employment after you come in Japan. The post-doctoral researchers will be employed directly by AIST and treated according to the regulations of AIST on salary, working time and holidays. An applicant had to obtain his/her Ph.D within these 7 years, or is expected to obtain it shortly. Applications including a CV, publication list, document to prove his/her PhD (if you already had it.), and a brief report on the outline of his/her research until now, should be submitted electrically to [email protected] by 14 Jan., 2022. The detail for the application is found in https://unit.aist.go.jp/matham-oil/jobs_en.htm. Further information about the MathAM-OIL may be found at https://unit.aist.go.jp/matham-oil/index_en.htm; please direct any questions on the application process to [email protected]. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
