The Theoretical Materials Physics Group of Turan Birol at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a postdoc position starting in the Fall or Winter of 2022. Current projects in the group involve using the combination first principles methods (primarily density functional theory) with applied group theoretical approaches to 1) elucidate the nature of topologically protected surface phonons and their experimental signatures, 2) build structure-property relationships in magnetic materials using machine learning based methods and magnetic group representations, 3) predict and/or explain experimental observations in quantum materials in general. This position requires collaborative skills to work with other theorists as well as experimentalists under the materials research centers at the University of Minnesota (The Center for Quantum Materials http://cqm.umn.edu/ and MRSEC http://www.mrsec.umn.edu/research/#irg1 ).

Highly motivated candidates with a degree from physics, chemistry, materials science or related fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants should send their CV, a list of two to three references, and a brief statement of their research interests to [email protected] . Review of applications will begin immediately, and continue until the position is filled.

The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity educator and employer.
