Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

University of Ferrara (IT), Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences,  Laboratory of Materials Modeling and Simulations - LMMS

A call for a postdoctoral position (1 year renewable for up to 4 years) within the H2020 Future and Emerging Technologies project “Electro-Intrusion - Simultaneous transformation of ambient heat and undesired vibrations into electricity via nanotriboelectrification during non-wetting liquid intrusion-extrusion into-from nanopores”, announced on PSI-K some time ago, has been published. The theme of the research is investigating the mechanism and energetics of liquid intrusion in porous materials and liquid/solid triboelectrification. The knowledge of these phenomena at the atomistic scale will allow to develop devices to produce electric energy by harvesting vibrational energy produced by human activities (e.g. car shock absorbers) and thermal energy extracted from the environment, which is the final goal of the project.

The successful candidates will develop and apply rare event methods based on classical and/or ab initio simulations, including QM/MM approaches. He/she will contribute to the research and dissemination activities of a consortium involving several European universities, research institutions and industrial partners. Large computational resources are available for the project through the “Laboratory of Materials Modeling and Simulations - LMMS” and university computer facilities as well as European PRACE resources (already secured).

The call is available at the link http://ateneo.unife.it/ripartizione-risorse-umane/ufficio-selezione-personale/assegni/bandi-2021/pagine/copy_of_DR%208%20gennaio%202021%20n%2028#null Search for my name, Simone Meloni, to identify the call concerning this post. The online application procedure is available at https://pica.cineca.it/unife/. Deadline, February 17, 12:00 CET

By law, calls must be published in Italian but the participation to the selection is open to anyone (send me an email if you are interested in the call but could not read/translate in Italian). Due to COVID, restrictions might apply to non-European citizens or people living outside (physical) Europe.

For additional information, please contact Dr. S. Meloni ([email protected])
