Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Postdoctoral position at Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), Korea

Up to two postdoctoral positions are immediately available in the Yong-Hoon Kim group at the School of Electrical Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea. Candidates with strong backgrounds in density functional theory (DFT) and beyond DFT calculations and interest in method developments are encouraged to apply by sending their CV including publication list and other relevant materials via email to yhkimlab(a)kaist.ac.kr.

Job Description:

The main objective is broadly to further develop the multi-space DFT (MS-DFT) formalism we recently established and apply it to the simulation of next-generation electronic, optoelectronic, and energy devices in nonequilibrium conditions. Providing an alternative to the standard DFT-based nonequilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) approach, MS-DFT is established by mapping the finite-bias quantum electron transport process to the drain-to-source optical excitation counterpart and carrying out a multi-space constrained-search procedure [1-3]. The successful candidate will both work on the application of MS-DFT to low-dimensional nanomaterials/devices (e.g. 2D heterojunction transistors, nano-bio sensors, electro/photocatalysts, etc.) as well as its methodological extensions (e.g. combination with machine learning molecular dynamics, time-dependent DFT, orbital-dependent exchange-correlation functionals, spectroscopy simulations, multi-scale simulation methods, etc.). Specific research themes will be determined based on the background and interest of applicants, and particularly application-oriented projects will be performed in close collaboration with leading experimental groups.

The initial appointment is one year and renewable for multiple years upon mutual agreement. The initial salary will be determined based on the qualification of the candidate. The selection will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Qualification Requirements:

Qualified applicants should have

+ a Ph.D in physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline received within the past 2 years or within the next 6 months

+ in-depth experience in (beyond) DFT and/or multiscale simulations and related publication records

+ interest (and preferably experience) in scientific computing

+ ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment

+ strong communication skills evidenced by first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international meetings.
