The department of Atomistic Modelling and Simulation of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany is looking for an excellent postdoctoral researcher for a collaborative German-French research project “Magnetism in iron alloys: thermodynamics, kinetics and defects”. The project will combine advanced modelling and dedicated experiments for an innovative design of Fe-based alloys for high-temperature, high-strength and strong magnet applications. The research at ICAMS will focus on the development of magnetic TB models for Fe-Cr, Fe-Mn and Fe-Co binary systems and their application in simulations of structural and magnetic properties of key microstructural features (extended defects, interfaces). This work will be closely linked with other theoretical studies (DFT, effective interaction models and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations) carried out by the project partners (MPIE Düsseldorf, CEA Saclay, LEM-CNRS/ONERA)

The successful candidate must have a PhD in physics, chemistry or materials science and expertise in the development and application of approximate models of interatomic interactions. A very good knowledge of solid state physics is anticipated and experience in the application of electronic structure theory to magnetism is highly preferential. Programming skills and experience in high-performance computing are also expected.

The position is available for a period of 2 years. The salary is based on the German federal public service scale (E 13 TV-L, full-time employment). The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunity employer, aiming to increase the proportion of women in science. Applications by women are particularly welcome. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum has an equal opportunities policy for persons with recognized disabilities. Disabled persons with the necessary qualifications will therefore be given priority.

Interested candidates are asked to send their resume, list of publications, letter of motivation, and contact addresses of academic references in electronic form to:

Dr. Matous Mrovec at [email protected]

Application deadline: 2016/12/31
