Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Detailed Description: The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has a postdoctoral position opening in modeling and simulations combined with machine learning and optimization of biopolymers. This is part of a project integrating aspects of chemical and biological synthesis and analysis. It merges machine learning applied to accelerated discovery using simulations and databases with one of the largest algae biology programs in the country.  The aim is to create an accelerated pipeline process for bioplastics by rapidly screening for new chemistries of biologically synthesized degradable polymers.

Job requirements: The successful candidate should have expertise in theoretical soft matter or computational polymers/biomaterials or chemistry, and background in machine learning and optimization coupled with a desire to be part of a highly interdisciplinary team. The ability to work creatively and independently is also important, as are strong communication and language skills.

Education:Candidates must have a Ph.D. completed within the last 5 years.

Notes to applicants:The position has an initial appointment of two years. Additional information on salary ranges and other benefits can be found online at http://www.lanl.gov/science/postdocs/. Please apply online, and also send a resume, publication list, research interests, future plans and the names of three references to Turab Lookman ([email protected]) and Ghanshyam Pilania ([email protected]).

Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Marie Curie, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships. For general information refer to the LANL Postdoctoral Program webpage.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Equal Opportunity:Los Alamos National Laboratory is an equal opportunity employer and supports a diverse and inclusive workforce. We welcome and encourage applications from the broadest possible range of qualified candidates. The Laboratory is also committed to making our workplace accessible to individuals with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations, upon request, for individuals to participate in the application and hiring process.
