Postdoctoral Fellowships at the University of Toronto:

Understanding and designing new electrocatalysts with the aid of first-principles calculations and machine learning

Our group unites experimental and theoretical scientists within eight experimental laboratories at the University of Toronto. We also leverage high performance computing clusters locally and nationally. Our mission includes advancing the physics and chemistry of catalytic materials and applying this knowledge to address key challenges in sustainable energy. Our group culture fosters win-win teamwork; communication that clarifies and finds connections and new scientific avenues; and that strives for excellence.

We are a recruiting postdoctoral fellow focused on increasing understanding and rational design of new electrocatalysts with the aid of first-principles calculations and machine learning.

We are seeking extraordinary candidates that  have experience in first-principle calculations in catalysis (not limited to electrocatalysts- potentially including thermocatalysts, photocatalysts, etc). The position requires a strong background in chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and solid state physics; experience in coding and machine learning; and excellent oral and written communications skills.

The research will be performed in collaboration with experimentalists. It is aimed at understanding mechanisms underpinning experimental results; and in designing new catalysts based on first-principles calculations.

Successful candidates will be expected to design and lead projects leading to first-authored publications in high-impact journals and cultivate their mentoring skills by devoting a fraction of their time to the supervision of graduate students in the group and developing new research directions.

Applications should be sent before Nov 20, 2018, to Prof. Ted Sargent ([email protected]) at the University of Toronto. Please list 3 referees who have confirmed that they are willing to supply letters of reference upon request.
