The Position:

The CSIRO Manufacturing Flagship is seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate to take a substantive role in the management of data generated and stored in the CSIRO Virtual Nanoscience Laboratory, and develop new and innovative methods for high-throughput screening, simulation, analysis and visualization. The Fellow will assist in the generation of large data sets, and prepare sets to populate the CSIRO Nanostructure Data Bank. An important part of this position is the development of transferable, user-friendly computational tools for data mining, and the design and maintenance of scientific data bases. This is a new highly collaborative role.

Specifically you will:

  • Develop algorithms and application of for high-throughput simulation of molecules, nanostructure and materials, and the rapid extraction and analysis of results.
  • Design and implement cloud-based simulation strategies, including assessment and testing of suitable software.
  • Manage the Virtual Nanoscience Laboratory data store, open source data collections and protocols, including population of the CSIRO Nanostructure Data Bank.
  • Generate data sets in collaboration with project leaders and staff.

Location: Parkville, Victoria, Australia
Salary: $78K to $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation (pension fund)

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in physics, or mathematics.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-throughput simulation of materials, nanostructures and molecules.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and maintaining user-friendly software, tools and scripts including scientific programming, using python, perl, awk, bash or alternative scripting languages.
  • Experience in database design and maintenance and manipulation and visualization of large and complicated data sets.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including at national and international conferences.

Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
