Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Nonlinear Optics and Transport in Two-Dimensional Materials
Position Location: Stockholm, Stockholms Lan 10691, Sweden
———————————————————————————————————————
Job Summary: Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship stipend associated to the research program funded by Swedish Research Council Starting Grant "Nonlinear optics and transport in two-dimensional materials" of Nordita Assistant Professor Dr. Habib Rostami.

Project description: The focus of this position is to develop and simulate theoretical models for the nonlinear quantum response of two-dimensional materials. The research plan involves nonlinear optics, nonlinear transport, inelastic light-matter scattering, optical bistability, nonlocal response, hydrodynamics, nonlinear elasto-optic, light-induced instabilities, and time-resolved nonlinear spectroscopy. The general goal is to propose novel nonlinear spectroscopy schemes to probe collective modes and condensed matter phases with nonlinear order parameters characterising unknown symmetry/topology of the system. Particular interest will be in exploring interaction-driven nonlinear phenomena in two-dimensional materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, and their heterostructures. There will be the opportunity of extending local and international collaborations with experimental and theoretical research teams active in two-dimensional materials and nonlinear optics.

Terms of employment: The position involves full-time employment for two years, starting in spring 2021 or some other date to be agreed upon.

Application: The deadline for applications is 30 November, 2020. Only online applications will be accepted. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a statement of research interests including future research plans. Additionally, candidates must arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted.

Apply here: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17328

Qualification requirements: Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria: The successful candidate should hold a PhD in theoretical physics with an adequate expertise in analytical techniques in many-body physics, quantum field theory, and Boltzmann/quantum kinetic theory. The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. In the appointment process, special attention will be given to a research record in two-dimensional materials, Dirac/Weyl semimetals, nonlinear optics, high-harmonic generation, photogalvanic effect, pump-probe spectroscopy, hydrodynamics, and dynamically driven systems. Since female scientists are underrepresented at Nordita we especially encourage women to apply. Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.

Contact: Further information about the position can be obtained from Assistant Professor Dr. Habib Rostami, Nordita,
