Vacancy Announcement

Postdoctoral Fellow -- Ferroelectrics and Multiferroics:

First-principles Theory

The Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science, seeks applications for a postdoctoral position focused on the study of the fundamental physics of ferroelectric and multiferroic materials using first-principles based methods. The successful scientist will use density functional theory to compute and optimize properties of new and known materials to compare with experiments and design better materials. An experimental component of the research is also possible, using optical, X-ray, magnetic, and dielectric measurements to better understand and improve materials.

Minimum qualifications for skills/experience/education:

a) Ph.D.

b) experience with density functional theory (DFT)

c) a thorough understanding of condensed matter science (chemistry, physics, materials science, or mineral physics)

d) good writing and communication skills

e) a proven publication record.

Desired qualifications:

a) experience with first-principles molecular dynamics is highly desirable.

b) we are a multidisciplinary laboratory, so interest in the broad range of research at the Earth & Planets Laboratory is desirable.

The appointment is intended for one year, with the possibility for an additional year pending progress and availability of funds. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Interested parties should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including publications), statement of research interests, and contact information for three references.

To submit an application, click here. Only complete applications submitted via the Carnegie website will be considered.

Prospective researchers will work at the Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science, Washington, DC. The Carnegie Institution is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, protected veteran status, disability, or other protected group status.
