Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We seek to engage a postdoc for an interdisciplinary program based at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA. We are developing automated and autonomous experimentation methods and techniques in which AI agents not only control the execution of processing and characterization steps, but can also design and modify them in a human-free feedback loop. We are looking for someone who can interface effectively between materials scientists and computer scientists who are world-class researchers in AI involving unsupervised learning. The candidate should be familiar with materials physics, data mining, and data management. Programming experience is essential; some experience with AI methods (deep neural nets, symbolic reasoning) is desirable in order to become productive quickly, though the position will facilitate professional development through workshops, etc.

This position will involve close collaboration with Prof. R. Bruce van Dover, Prof. Michael Thompson, Prof. Carla Gomes, and Prof. Bart Selman (all at Cornell) and Dr. John Gregoire (Caltech).

Cornell embodies a research environment that is highly collaborative and a physical environment that is relaxed and stunningly beautiful. We offer a competitive salary, based on qualifications and experience.

This position will be available in early October. For more information please contact Prof. R. Bruce van Dover ([email protected]).
