A 2-year post-doc position is available at the Department of Materials Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milano, Italy) to work in the group of Cristiana Di Valentin (www.beyond-graphene.mater.unimib.it).
The position is sponsored by the ERC Consolidator grant 2014 entitled: "Smart bioinorganic hybrids for nanomedicine". The core objective of this project is the investigation of biologically functionalized semiconducting oxide nanostructures (nanoparticles, nanotubes, films) for drug delivery, imaging, biomimesis and phototherapy.
The project will make use of first-principles and atomistic methods as well as of a combination of then (QM/MM).
Applicants must have (or expect to shortly obtain) a PhD in a relevant area of computational chemistry, physics, materials modelling or other relevant discipline. Experience in electronic structure calculations, molecular dynamic simulations and scientific programming is highly desirable. Experience with using and modifying first-principles codes and/or atomistic simulation packages is also highly desirable. Candidates should be fluent in written and spoken English with an emerging track record of peer-reviewed publications.
The starting date is expected to be February-March 2016. The net monthly salary is roughly 2100-2300 euros, depending on the successful candidate's experience.
Those who are interested should send an updated CV, a list of publications, a short research profile and three contact addresses of academic references (preferably by email) to Prof. Cristiana Di Valentin ([email protected]).
