Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IN “ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES AT THE NANOSCALE” GROUP

Location: Centro de Física de Materiales, Donostia / San Sebastián

The “Electronic Properties at the Nanoscale” Group at Materials Physics Center (CFM) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral research position (renewable contract for one more year), commencing after November 2023. Join our team and collaborate with Senior Researcher Andrés Ayuela to explore the fascinating world of electronic properties at the nanoscale.

Position Overview:

  • Research Group: Electronic Properties at the Nanoscale

  • Duration: 1(+1) year

  • Start Date: After November 2023

  • Supervisor: Senior Researcher Andrés Ayuela

Research Focus:

The "Electronic Properties at the Nanoscale" Group at the Materials Physics Center is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to looking to their dielectric response of calcium silicates and nanoadditions, so that reflectance is increased in the optical range, and show emissivity in the atmospheric window, a phenomenon that is called radiative cooling.

We aims at improving the energy efficiency of building materials in a project that continues research on EU FET awarded project under the H2020 program. From the theoretical point we propose to optimize the cement material by micro-nano additions so that they show high solar radiation reflectance and high emmisivity in the atmospheric window, forming a photonic metaconcrete MIRACLE (https://miracle-concrete.eu/).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in cohesion and interactions with a focus on the description of dielectric response in materials (excitons, plasmons,…).

  • Investigate the structural and electronic properties of materials at the nanoscale.

  • Collaborate with Senior Researcher Andrés Ayuela and contribute to ongoing projects.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Physics or Physical Chemistry, preferably in Condensed Matter.

  • Expertise in magnetism and proficiency in density functional theory methods like plane waves (VASP), SIESTA or similar techniques are highly desirable.

Remuneration:

The selected candidate will be employed by the CSIC and will receive an annual salary of €40,701.86 before taxes.

Application Process:

Interested candidates are invited to apply for this position by sending the following documents via email to [email protected] with the subject label "Postdoc MIRACLE - Dr. Andrés Ayuela" before November 20, 2023:

  • An updated Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications (50%).

  • A presentation letter with a declaration of interest (10%).

  • Two reference letters and contact emails of two potential referees (20%).

The assessment of your suitability for the job is also being taken into account (20%).

Inquiries:

For general inquiries or questions related to this position, please contact us at [email protected] with the subject label "Postdoc MIRACLE - Dr. Andrés Ayuela." Join our team and contribute to cutting-edge research in the exciting field of nanoscale electronic properties. We look forward to receiving your applications.
