Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a 3-4 week delay between posts being submitted and emails being sent to the mailing list. Please bear with us while we try to improve this.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We invite highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship on the project titled "Data-Driven Search for New High-Entropy Alloys for Engineering Application".

Project description:

During this one-year project, the postdoc will especially focus on using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations combined with Machine Learning (ML) to determine the mechanical properties of promising high entropy alloys. It is expected from the applicant to have prior experience on working with techniques to simulate chemically disordered structures such as Special Quasi Random Structure, Coherent Potential Approximation, etc. The acquaintance with ML is an added advantage but not mandatory. The applicant should be keen to learn new techniques based on ML.

This position is primarily scientific in nature, but the postdoc is expected to contribute to the creation of a large-scale follow-on project. The project will be carried out in the research groups of Dr. Luca Laurenti and Dr. Poulumi Dey. The two departments involved in this project are Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and Delft Center for Systems and Control (DCSC) of TU Delft.

Qualifications:

We are interested in candidates with the following qualifications:
• a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or a similar engineering discipline;
• an expert in Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations;
• experience in techniques to model chemically disordered structures such as Special Quasi Random Structure (SQS), Coherent Potential Approximation (CPA), etc;
• experience in computing elastic and mechanical properties within DFT and MD;
• a strong motivation to learn machine learning techniques;
• a strong track record in scientific research, as evident from publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conference participation;
• ability to work in team, collaborate with PhD students, attitude to work with accuracy and being scientifically productive;
• excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
• inventive and with independent attitude

Deadline: 31st March 2022
