Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to apply and develop analytical and numerical methods to describe the dynamics of interacting electron and nuclear spins in graphene-based nanostructures. The envisioned theoretical work aims on the one hand to establish an understanding for the optimization of electron spin coherence times and on the other to study the use of controlled electron-spin systems to prepare and manipulate the state of nuclear spins. This comprises the development of protocols for transferring spin polarization between electrons and nuclei (dynamic nuclear polarization) and studying the coherent exchange of quantum information between electron and nuclear spins and the effective nuclear-spin dynamics induced by exchange-coupled electron spins.

The work will be carried out in the groups of T. Frederiksen and G. Giedke at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) within the framework of the IKUR Strategy of the Basque Government and in collaboration with the partners of the IKUR Collaborative Project Quantum register based on molecular spins and graphene nanostructures from CIC nanoGUNE and the CSIC Material Physics Center.

Candidates should be highly motivated researchers with a PhD degree and a strong background in theoretical solid-state physics, excellent communication skills and English knowledge. Previous experience with spin systems, electronic structure theory, quantum transport, open quantum systems, or quantum information theory would be an advantage.

The duration of the opening is up to 2 years.

Interested candidates should submit an updated CV and a brief statement of interest
to [email protected] (including "Ref. 2023/25" in the subject line) before February 24, 2023. Reference letters are welcome but not indispensable.

Call details can be found at http://dipc.ehu.es/join_us/IKUR_POSTDOCS_CALL_2023.pdf.
