We invite applications for a postdoctoral position, under the supervision of Prof. Hanghui Chen, in the group of materials theory and design at New York University Shanghai (www.hanghuichen.org).

This position focuses on the study of emergent phenomena in complex oxides and their heterostructures, in particular in those with 4d and 5d transition metal elements. In complex oxides containing 4d and 5d elements, the interplay between strong correlation, Hund's coupling and spin-orbit interaction can lead to exotic quantum phases. Designing new oxides via heterostructuring provides a robust approach to manipulating various many-body interactions and controlling physical properties.

Highly motivated candidates holding a PhD degree in physics, materials science, chemistry or other closely related fields (at the time of appointment) are strongly encouraged to apply. Prior experience in electronic structure calculations at the DFT-level and programming is necessary. Familiarity with many-body theory, in particular Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT) is highly desirable. The successful candidate is anticipated to make close ties with experimental works in New York University (NYU, New York), East China Normal University (ECNU, Shanghai) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK, Hong Kong).

The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The starting date is flexible, but preferably around January 1, 2018. The pay package includes a base salary (about 200,000 RMB) and benefits. Salary and benefits are commensurate with qualification. The position term is for three years, but needs renewal once every year upon mutual agreement.

Applicants should submit a CV with a full publication list and contact information (name and email address) of at least two references to [email protected].

For inquiry, please contact Hanghui Chen via [email protected]

NYU Shanghai is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Women, minorities, veterans and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
