Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A postdoctoral position is available, starting in mid-end Sep 2020, at George Mason University, with Prof. Igor Mazin (http://mason.gmu.edu/~imazin2/)

The primary project is related to topologically nontrivial magnetic textures, using a combination of first principles density functional calculations, and analytical theory, and will involve collaboration with an experimental group at the same department. The idea of the work can be drawn from this preprint: http://arxiv.org/abs/2007.02399

There is a secondary project, ideally the work on both will progress in parallel. The secondary project aims at understand quantitatively Ising superconductors, such as NbSe2 single layer, Similarly to the primary project, the main work will be along the lines of the density functional theory, with some analytical work. A preprint along this line of work can be found here: https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.05497

Branching out into other interesting materials is also possible, including unconventional superconductors, unusual magnetics, or both.

For German nationals and residents partial funding through Feodor Lynen  program of Alexander von Humboldt foundation is also possible.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a demonstrable record in condensed matter physics/materials theory. Experience with first-principle calculations is highly desirable.

TO APPLY: Applicants should send their CV, brief description of their previous scientific research and contact information of three references to Igor Mazin at [email protected]. The position will remain open until filled. Candidates who submitted their applications in response to this ad https://psi-k.net/jobs/postdoc-position-in-ab-initio-calculations-for-2d/ will be reconsidered automatically and do not need to apply again.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: This position is funded for two years, with the possibility of continuation contingent on good performance and available funding.

SALARY AND BENEFITS are set in accordance with the State of Virginia regulations. More details can be inquired from Igor Mazin at  [email protected].

LOCATION: The university is located in Northern Virginia, in the city of Fairfax, in close proximity (near a Metro line) to Washington, D.C. This is a buoyant area with advanced culture life and commercial activity.
