Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The newly established Nanostructure Physics Group at University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) is seeking to fill postdoctoral position focused on electronic structure modeling of 2D materials (see interests of the group leader at http://www1.osu.cz/~karlicky/). The project relies on the use of DFT VASP software or tight-binding methods to predict and investigate physical properties of 2D materials.

Applicants should have a strong background in either computational physics, material science, quantum chemistry or related fields, and hold Ph.D. degree in the mentioned or related disciplines. Solid experience with atomistic DFT or TB modeling is required, whereas experience with many-body methods (GW, BSE), scripting, or programming would be an advantage. Further requirements include good written and oral communication skills in English and ability to work independently.

The position is available for 1 year with a possible extension upon mutual agreement of both sides. We offer work in stimulating environment and locally competitive salary negotiable depending on experience.

Applications including a detailed CV, full publication list, cover letter, and, a list of 2 established researchers willing to provide a letter of recommendation should be submitted to [email protected]. The cover letter should include: expertise related to materials modeling technique(s) including used software, scientific interests including preferred direction of research and preference for materials types, experience with many-body techniques, scripting, programming and software development (if any), the earliest possible date of enrollment, and other information that might be relevant. The position is open until suitable candidate is found.
