Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

This project is embedded in a bigger European network dedicated to identify new candidate materials for rare earth lean permanent magnets by materials simulation on different scales. The research of the subproject focusses on the first-principles simulation of new candidate phases by density functional methods and the analysis of all kinds of magnetic properties. The project will be closely interconnected with other theoretical and experimental groups in Europe and at Uppsala University. The postdoc position is located in the Division of Materials Theory at Uppsala University (http://www.physics.uu.se/research/materials-theory).

Employment period: The postdoctoral position is for two years.

The PhD degree should be obtained less than three years prior to the application deadline.

Prerequisites: The applicant is expected to have solid knowledge in quantum mechanics, solid state physics, and materials science (preferably with focus on magnetism). A PhD degree in physics, chemistry or materials science is recommended. Furthermore, the candidate should be familiar with ab initio quantum mechanical methods and codes such as VASP and all-electron codes like SPRKKR. The ability to work in a team and good communication skills are expected.

The application should contain a CV, a short motivation letter (max. 1 page), publication list, copy of doctoral certificate, two references (names and contact details). Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in the evaluation, for example periods of parental leave, should be mentioned in the CV.

The department strives for a more even gender balance in its research and teaching staff. Thus, female applicants are especially encouraged.

Starting: 2016-04-01 or as agreed upon
