A postdoctoral position is immediately available in Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER), in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. The position is for one year, with possible reappointment up to four years by mutual agreement between the PI and the postdoctoral researcher.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary (theory + experiments) team on investigation/design of new materials for energy applications (e.g. catalysts, ion batteries). Specific research topics will include 1) calculations of surface/bulk properties of the materials, and 2) discovery of materials descriptors to design new materials based on materials informatics approach.

Desired qualifications: 1) Ph.D. degree in Materials Science/Chemical Engineering/Physics/Chemistry or in a closely-related fields, 2) in-depth knowledge of electronic structure calculations in complex solids (mostly oxides), 3) comprehensive experience on atomic-level modelling of chemical reactions, defects, etc in bulk materials and at their interfaces, and 4) strong coding background in Python and Shell preferred.

Postdoctoral researcher salaries per month can range approximately from 2,900,000 KRW (2,500 USD) to 3,200,000 KRW (2,800 USD) before tax based on his/her research experiences. Daejeon, where the KIER is located, is one of the largest cities of South Korea and will provide excellent working and living environments. Especially, the city has Daedeok Innopolis (Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone) which is composed of 28 government-funded research institutions as well as 79 private research institutes with as many as 20,000 researchers.
