Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Theory and Simulation Group at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is offering a postdoc position in the area of theory and simulation of free-standing membranes of functional oxides. The position is supported by the FOxME project from the Spanish National Plan for Research and involves close interaction with different experimental groups both at ICMAB and at the neighbor Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2).

The theory part of the project focuses on understanding flexoelectric phenomena (or more generally, physical effects that are related to strain gradients) in oxide membranes, with special emphasis on metallic or partially metallic systems and on ferroelastic multidomain structures. The tasks to develop will imply harnessing and extending the existing theory and implementation of flexoelectricity [Phys. Rev. Lett. 127, 216801 (2021)] and lattice-dynamics [Phys. Rev. X 11, 041027 (2021)] in quasi-2D systems.

Requirements:

Ideal candidates should:

  • Hold a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science (or similar).

  • Have some knowledge of Condensed Matter Physics and, in particular, be familiar with first-principles calculations applied to lattice-dynamical problems.

  • Proficiency in software development (preferably in FORTRAN language) and high-performance computing.

  • Good knowledge of English, both written and oral.

About the position:

The position is funded for one year during which the host supervisors are committed to support the successful candidate’s application to postdoctoral fellowships such as, the Marie-Curie IF or the Beatriu de Pinós program (Marie-Curie cofund from the Catalan government).

Administratively, the position will be at CSIC, under the supervision of Dr. Massimilano Stengel (P.I) and Dr. Miquel Royo.

The position is available immediately, and will start as soon as the appropriate candidate is selected and approved by the CSIC administration.

Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience following the CSIC scales.

Contact information:

For more information, please contact Dr. Miquel Royo at: [email protected]

To apply, please send a single PDF document to the above address, using the subject: "FOxME postdoc application". The PDF should contain a CV, a motivation letter, and the names of two references willing to write letters of recommendation.

Applications will be continuously reviewed. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview (possibly online).

About ICMAB

The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is a multidisciplinary research center focused on cutting-edge research in functional advanced materials in the fields of ENERGY, ELECTRONICS, NANOMEDICINE and application fields yet to imagine. Our R&D activities are strongly backed up by state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation and specialised technical staff available in our scientific services. We are ready and able to deploy R&D activities at the forefront of international knowledge.

The ICMAB is integrated within the Barcelona Nanocluster in Bellaterra (BNC-b), a research network that includes the UAB, the CSIC (ICMAB, IMB-CNM and ICN2) and IRTA, part of the UAB Research Park of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (PRUAB) and the ALBA Synchrotron. The BNC-b aims to share advanced scientific equipment and promote and disseminate nanoscience and nanotechnology.
