A postdoctoral position is available in the Electronic Structure Group at the Fritz Haber Institute (http://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/acnew/groups/electronicstructure/index.html) to work on the DFG funded project, SIMPLANT. The successful candidate will study the growth of 2D materials using ab initio methods, with a particular focus on structure prediction of MoS2 grown by ion implantation on various substrates and the calculation of soft X-ray spectra of these predicted structures. As part of the group the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity for intense collaboration with experimentalists working at the BESSY II synchrotron, where the group operates several beam lines for in situ soft X-ray spectroscopy.

 

We aim to appoint a strong candidate with interests in computational spectroscopy and structure prediction. You will have a PhD in theoretical or computational science and have demonstrated expertise in quantum mechanical calculations. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in surface/gas/liquid interactions and 2D materials.

 

The position is funded for 2 years and the start date is negotiable. Review of applications will begin May 1st and continue until the position is filled.
