Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The groups of Chad Risko (risko.as.uky.edu) and John Anthony (https://chem.as.uky.edu/users/anthony) in the Department of Chemistry and Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) at the University of Kentucky (UK) are seeking outstanding, highly motivated candidates for an immediate Postdoctoral Researcher opening working in the fields of data curation and data science. Working in the context of a multidisciplinary collaboration funded by the National Science Foundation Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (NSF DMREF) program that includes synthetic and theoretical chemists, materials engineers, and device physicists, the Postdoctoral Researcher will work in a new collaboration with data scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop a curated materials database for organic semiconductors that combines synthetic, experimental, and computational data sets. The curated data will also be implemented in data science / machine learning investigations to explore structure-function relationships and develop novel routes for materials discovery.

Prospective candidates should have a strong background in theoretical/computational chemistry, physics, or material science and data science / curation. Experience with quantum-chemical calculations (e.g., density functional theory, DFT) and/or molecular dynamics simulations are expected. The position will also consider development and application of machine learning / data-driven techniques. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required for this position, especially in the context of a highly multidisciplinary effort. As part of the Postdoctoral training, the applicant will be required help supervise and train graduate and undergraduate students with varied disciplinary backgrounds.

The initial appointment will be for one year with possible extension. The position is open to start as soon as possible.

For information on the project and position, interested candidates are encouraged to contact Chad Risko by email at [email protected]. Please include a CV, brief description of research interests, and contact information for three professional references.
