A Postdoctoral position is immediately available at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, CNR-SPIN Chieti, under the supervision of Dr. Silvia Picozzi (duration: 12 months, possibly renewable upon funding availability, starting date: April-May 2016). The research activity will be focused on first-principles calculations within density functional theory for heterostructures based on antiferromagnets and will be carried out within a research project called MAGISTER (Magnetic Information Storage in Antiferromagnet Spintronic Devices), financed by CARIPLO Foundation and performed in collaboration with experimentalists (Prof. R. Bertacco and Prof. M. Cantoni) at Politecnico di Milano. Part of the ab-initio activity will be devoted to simulations for advanced materials with active spin degrees of freedom (Rashba/Dresselhaus effects, exotic magnetism, systems showing strong spin-orbit coupling, etc).
A PhD Degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related disciplines is needed. Extensive experience with density functional electronic structure methods is mandatory, preferably for magnetic and/or correlated materials. Applications not satisfying the previous requirements will not be considered. Publications in high profile peer-reviewed journals, a high level of independence, good communication skills and a strong background in solid-state physics are expected.
The net salary will be 1.640 Euros per month. The activity will be carried out in Chieti (Italy), in the CNR-SPIN group of Dr. Silvia Picozzi (more information available at https://sites.google.com/site/silviapicozzi/home ). Our work location is 10 km from the Adriatic coast, with a unique combination of mountains and seaside, mild climate , kind hospitality and art treasures, typical of Italy.
Applications including a detailed CV and list of publications should be sent as soon as possible to [email protected] (please indicate: “Postdoc position - MAGISTER” in the email subject). The selection will start immediately.
