Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Postdoctoral Scholar

Laboratory for Advanced Materials Processing, Empa - Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Thun, Switzerland

Salary: 85,000-94,000 CHF (dependent on experience)

Position: Full-time

Contract: 1-4 years

About us

Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.

In our Laboratory for Advanced Materials Processing, we apply extensive expertise in process design, monitoring, and control as well as state-of-the-art multiphysics modeling and machine learning techniques towards designing Digital Twins for Laser Metal 3D printers, significantly reducing the trial-and-error experimental efforts in simultaneous processmaterial optimization (https://www.empa.ch/web/s204/research).

This project is part of our joint efforts with NCCR MARVEL (https://nccr-marvel.ch/people/projects/novel-materials) in the computational design of new advanced materials for laser 3D printing applications. For more details and to apply, see the full text of the advertisement at https://apply.refline.ch/673276/1655/pub/1/index.html

Your profile:

You hold a Ph.D. degree obtained no more than two years ago in computational physics, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field, as documented by a strong publication track record in this field. You have 4+ years of experience with ab initio molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo methods applied to heterogeneous interfaces, as well as interest and experience with machine learning interatomic potential development and active learning approaches. Prior experience with high-performance computing and high-level programming (Bash, Python) is a must, and workflow management tools (AiiDA, Pyiron) would be an advantage.

Please contact Dr. Vladyslav Turlo ([email protected]) for further information about the position and learn more about our modeling team at https://www.empa.ch/web/s204/modeling-simulations
