Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates for a one-year postdoc position at the Solid
State Physics Theory Group of the University of Milan (Italy).
The research project, funded by the NFFA user infrastructure, is aimed to the theoretical
investigation of local structure and stoichiometry, electronic and magnetic properties of
substitutional magnetic defects in 2D materials, as can be obtained via ultra-low energy
implantation of magnetic atoms.
The ab initio calculation, performed in Density Functional Theory framework, will support
the interpretation of the available STM and electron spectroscopy measurements.

Required qualifications include a Master or PhD degree in Physics Chemistry or Material
Science and a strong background in Solid State Computational Physics. Previous
experience in performing ab initio simulations with standard DFT codes (SIESTA,
Quantum Espresso) is mandatory. The ideal candidate needs to have very good
communication skills in English, Italian language skills are beneficial. The successful
candidate is expected to work in a team that is part of the Solid State Theory group at
UNIMI and in strong interaction with experimentalists.

The position start ideally at the beginning of May 2022 with some flexibility to be agreed
upon. The availability to accept the position without waiting for VISA application
procedures is considered a plus. The net monthly salary will depends on the expertise of
the candidate, ranging between 1600 and 1800 euros.
For additional inquiries and expressions of interest please contact Simona Achilli providing
a curriculum vitae (including research interests and accomplishments, full publications list,
relevant certificates/diplomas/awards list) and two reference letters supporting the
application with full contact details. Selected candidates will be interviewed via
teleconference.
