Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A postdoctoral position is open to work on theory and ab-initio simulation of the attenuation of acoustic waves in crystals with Lorenzo Paulatto (IMPMC, Paris) in collaboration with the group of Bernard Perrin (INSP, Paris) and Nathalie Vast and Jelena Sjakste (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau).

The position is funded through the LabEx MATISSE (MATerials, Interfaces, Surfaces, Environment) for up to 18 months starting no later than July 1st 2019 and includes resources to support participation to conferences and visiting stays. The net salary starts from around 2100€ depending on the candidate work experience.

The ideal candidates have a doctoral degree in physics or equivalent with a good background, deep understanding and strong research motivation in areas including ab-initio simulations, theory of harmonic crystals, anharmonic crystals from perturbation theory, Boltzmann transport equation.

The aim of the project is to understand and predict the attenuation of soundwaves in the Akhiezer regime, where the soundwave period is much longer that the typical phonon lifetime, in a novel approach coupling the soundwave to the phonon thermal bath via a pressure-gradient transport equation. Numerical simulations will be performed with the Quantum-ESPRESSO package[1]. Part of the project will consist of theoretical and numerical implementations.

Please send your candidacy including Curriculum Vitae, list of publications and at least one recommendation letter to [email protected]
