Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A 12 months postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Quantum Theory of Matter group at Institut de Minéralogie, Physique des Matériaux et de Cosmochimie (IMPMC, Sorbonne University, CNRS & MNHN), located at the lively Pierre and Marie Curie campus of Sorbonne University (Paris, France).

The latest start date is 1st of October 2023. Candidates are required to have a PhD degree in Condensed Matter Physics, Material Science or a related domain with a strong interest in physics.

The project concerns the development of a technique for the ab initio calculation of the cross section of core-level spectroscopies such as x-ray absorption spectroscopy and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering for correlated materials.

The successful candidate will have a solid background in solid state physics, advanced quantum mechanics and statistical physics and basic knowledge of theoretical spectroscopies. Prior experience with the development of many-body techniques for the simulation of electronic or magnetic properties of strongly correlated systems such as DMRG, MPS-based techniques, quantum Monte Carlo or Green's function techniques like dynamical mean-field theory as well as a proficiency in high-performance computing will be advantageous.

Screening of applicants will start immediately and last at least until 15 June 2023. For more information and in order to apply, please visit the corresponding job announcement on the CNRS job portal (https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR7590-BENLEN-001/Default.aspx?lang=EN). Questions can be addressed by e-mail to Benjamin Lenz (benjamin.lenz[at]sorbonne-universite.fr).
