Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Emmy-Noether group SPECSY at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry, Ulm University (www.uni-ulm.de/specsy) has two openings on electronic structure modelling and computational spectroscopy under the supervision of Dr. Matthias May. The 2-year PostDoc position and the 3-year PhD position are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Project description: The project aims at a detailed understanding of electrochemical processes as a function of the applied potential for energy conversion and storage. The focus will be to model solid-liquid interfaces of energy materials with DFT-based methods (CP2K, Quantum Espresso). Second principles calculations (CP2K, Yambo) of reflection anisotropy spectra will allow a direct comparability with experiment. The work will involve close collaboration with the cluster of excellence Post-Lithium Storage (www.postlithiumstorage.org/en/) on batteries. The second pillar will be electrochemical interfaces of high-efficiency photoelectrodes for solar hydrogen.

Candidate requirements: The postdoc candidate (f/m/d) must hold a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or materials science. Experience in scientific programming and method development is expected for contributions to the open-source codes involved in the project.
The PhD candidate (f/m/d) is expected to hold a Master's degree in physics, chemistry or materials science and should have experience with density functional theory or molecular dynamics simulations.
Both candidates should be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills in English, and be curious about the challenge to closely interact with experiment.

We offer:

- An international environment in one of the leading German institutions for electrochemical energy storage.
- Salaries: PhD position: 67% TV-L E13, 3 years. Postdoc position: 100% TV-L E13 [1], initially two years, extension possible.
- Ulm is a city with a high quality of living in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. It has a picturesque old town and a large science campus. Our office building even offers impressive views on the Alps.

Please send your application or any questions to Dr. Matthias May via email to [email protected], including the following documents:

Brief cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications (optional for PhD candidate), certificates, list of up to 2 references who can be contacted by phone or email.
