Postdoc and/or MSc positions in AI-driven Smart ... (1 reply)
The Materials Informatics Laboratory of Prof. Milica Todorović at the University of Turku (FI) has opened 2 positions for a Postdoctoral Researcher and/or Research Assistant (MSc thesis) ready to start in the summer 2024 in the SmartCycling project. Successful candidates would apply artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to improve the recovery of materials from recycled battery waste.
In the SC-vision project, you will be working on microscopy images of black mass from recycled Li-ion batteries, where domains of constituent compounds are typically observed and analysed by experts. Our objective is to implement computer vision approaches for compound identification and quantification, to facilitate material separation and recovery.
In the SC-entropy project, you will be applying statistical entropy models to quantify the circularity of recycling approaches. Our objectives are to computationally implement a statistical entropy framework and apply it to calculate the entropies associated with innovative recycling processes.
We welcome candidates with a degree in physics, materials science, chemistry, computer science or engineering, who are passionate about data science and applied AI in natural sciences. Prior experience with materials simulations, coding and data science is a bonus. We seek colleagues who enjoy coding, scripting and analytics, and are keen to push the boundaries of AI applications to materials recycling and circular economy. These projects require creative thinking and programming as well as a broad understanding of the structures and properties of materials. We further appreciate willingness to travel, teach and mentor, collaborate and communicate science.
More information on the positions and application guidelines are available here. The application deadline is 17 May 2024, with the possibility of extension. We would like the successful candidates to start in June 2024 or soon thereafter. Join us at the multi-cultural and dynamic Materials Engineering unit: candidates from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
The application period is now closed, I would like to withdraw the listing.
