LUT University has attracted funding from the Academy of Finland to support its emerging field of research in clean air. The research requires expertise in multiple engineering fields, including chemical engineering, applied mathematics and material science, and the selected candidate will be working in close collaboration with other engineering fields.
We are now looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work on material design with applications in gas separation. Both experimental and computational expertise are considered appropriate for the position. The research topic is related to the metal-organic framework (MOF) paradigm.
MOFs are a fascinating class of porous crystalline materials. Their unique properties make them promising candidates for many gas separation applications. Density Functional theory (DFT) calculations play a vital role in understanding these materials. Theoretical findings, combined with experimental results, would not only provide highly valuable fundamental insights on gas separation in these materials, but also help the rational development for the next generation of materials for gas separation.
Applicants to the position are expected to have a doctoral degree in a field relevant to the position, such as D.Sc. or Ph.D. in physics or material science. The work involves conducting independent research under the supervision of a professor as part of a research group. The selected candidate is expected to be highly motivated to conduct material science research addressing new air quality challenges, to be creative and daring in exploring paradigm shifts in science and to play an important role in a multidisciplinary team effort with experts from various fields. Attracting competitive funding including industrial collaboration with MOF manufacturing companies is required in the position. Teaching skills are also needed for the performance of the duties.
