Position Description
The Department of Physics and Astrophysics (University of North Dakota) is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow in the area of computational condensed matter physics starting August 1, 2022. This position is full-time and benefitted; the appointment is for 18 months. The successful candidate will work in Dr. Deniz Cakir’s research group and contribute to ongoing research on the MAB phases (which are atomically laminated, ternary transition metal borides) using density functional theory simulations.

Minimum Requirements

• A Ph.D. in the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, or materials)
• Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with programming (such as Python)
• Expert knowledge and experience of first-principles calculations using DFT (VASP is highly preferred)
• Expert knowledge and experience in crystal structure prediction (via USPEX, CALYPSO, or similar software) and high-throughput calculations
• Experience in electrochemistry (such as constructing Pourbaix diagrams)
• Experience in cluster expansion and in techniques to model chemically disordered structures such as Special Quasi Random Structure.
