The National Security Campus (NSC) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) facility managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technology (FM&T). Our Primary business is to manufacture sophisticated mechanical, electronic, and engineered material components for our nation’s defense system. Our goal is to seek innovative solutions that surpass our customers’ expectations. To accomplish this, we research, develop, and deploy some of the most advanced design and manufacturing technologies in use in the United States today.
The post-doctoral research associate will drive Research and Development in applying ICME methodology to better understanding process/structure/property relationships of both conventionally and additively manufactured metals in a manufacturing environment. Research will be focused on highly technical and advanced applications of first-principle calculations, classical simulations, and CALPHAD methods to predict material microstructure and properties.
Job Summary
This post-doctoral position is in the field of computational materials engineering, specifically aimed at understanding metal properties in various environments and processing conditions. The researcher will perform independent research in collaboration with other highly skilled and technical individuals at the National Security Campus (NSC) and third party collaborative partner QuesTek Innovations LLC. The responsibilities will include independent hands-on research, scope definition, simulation/experiment design, analysis, potential testing and evaluation. The researcher will create relationships and networks within the entire Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) and regional universities through joint collaborations. This position requires interfacing with scientists, engineers, and technicians in order to coordinate simulation support and activities. The job requires attention to detail, excellence in scientific and technical work, and the ability to communicate scientific results through journal publications and presenting at scientific conferences. The researcher is expected to support NSC scientific and engineering staff, and grow into a role of performing, guiding and leading independent work in the area of first-principle (DFT) and CALPHAD calculations on metals.

Desired
Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted Q-level security clearance.
NSC is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Applicants offered employment with NSC are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.
