Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A fully funded 2-year post-doc position is available in the Computational Electronic Structure Theory group (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-applied-physics/computational-electronic-structure-theory-cest) of Prof. Patrick Rinke at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. In this position, you will have a chance to make an impact on sustainable development by applying tools from artificial intelligence (AI) to biomaterials research. Our objective is to optimize the conversion of lignin and carbohydrates into functional materials and to understand the relation between the processing conditions and the structural properties of the materials.

We welcome candidates with a PhD in chemistry, physics or materials science who are curious about applied machine learning in natural sciences. Prior machine learning or statistics experience is required. Biomaterials or polymer expertise, python knowledge or experience with digitalization are a bonus, but not a requirement. We seek colleagues who enjoy coding, scripting and analytics, and are keen to push the boundaries of data-driven materials science. This project requires creative thinking and programming, as well as technical expertise in machine learning and a broad understanding of biomaterials science.

More information on the position and application guidelines can be found here: https://aalto.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/aalto/job/Kandikeskus/Postdoctoral-researcher-2_R31831 The application deadline is 30.9.2021.
