Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A fully funded 2-year post-doc position is available in the Computational Electronic Structure Theory (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-applied-physics/computational-electronic-structure-theory-cest) group of Prof. Patrick Rinke at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. In this position, you will have a chance to make an impact on molecular modelling and aerosol chemistry by applying tools from artificial intelligence (AI). Our long-term objective is to understand molecular aggregation processes in the atmosphere and how they affect air quality and climate change. The project is part of the recently founded Centre of Excellence in Atmospheric Science VILMA (https://wiki.helsinki.fi/display/VILMA/) and you will collaborate with experimentalists, theoreticians and computer scientists.

We welcome candidates with a PhD in (computational) chemistry or physics or computer science who are curious about applied machine learning in the natural sciences. Prior machine learning experience is strongly encouraged. We seek colleagues who enjoy coding, scripting and analytics, and are keen to push the boundaries of machine learning and AI. This project requires creative thinking and programming, as well as technical expertise in machine learning and a broad understanding of computational science and molecular chemistry.

More information on the position and application guidelines can be found here: https://www.aalto.fi/en/open-positions/postdoctoral-researcher-in-machine-learning-for-molecular-modelling The application deadline is 6.6.2022.
