Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are pleased to announce a post-doctoral opening at the University of Illinois in the field of computational modeling and simulation of materials and processes in solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs). The position will begin on March 1, 2016. This opening is part of our new NSF PIRE program entitled "Integrated Computational Materials Engineering for Active Materials and Interfaces in Chemical Fuel Production". The program is jointly led by the University of Illinois, USA and Kyushu University, Japan.

The ideal successful candidate will be experienced across a spectrum of modeling approaches, ranging from first-principles electronic structure to molecular dynamics to continuum. Experience with multiscale modeling is an asset. Particular research focuses include design of novel proton and oxygen ion conducting materials, design of new electrodes, and mechanisms and mitigation of degradation in SOECs.

The researcher will be engaged with an active and diverse research team including Profs. Elif Ertekin, Narayan Aluru, Petros Sofronis, Sharon Hammes-Schiffer, and Dallas Trinkle at Illinois. In addition, the researcher will be actively engaged with our experimental counterparts at Kyushu University in Japan (Profs. Tatsumi Ishihara, Hiroshige Matsumoto, and Nicola Perry).

The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a diverse interdisciplinary team and facilitating a meaningful international collaboration. While the candidate will be primarily based in Illinois, they will also travel annually to Kyushu University as part of the international collaboration.

Interested candidates should contact Elif Ertekin (ertekin [at] illinois [dot] edu), with subject "SOEC post-doc application". Please include a CV, a statement of research interests, a paragraph describing your specific suitability for this program, and the names of three references. Applications will be considered as they are received, until the position is filled.
