The University of Oslo (UiO) has a vacant position as postdoctoral research fellow in theoretical materials science available at Department of Physics/Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology.

The application deadline is Thursday, June 15th, 2017. The fellowship period is 2 years, and the successful candidate should be prepared to start within September 1st, 2017.

This fellowship is part of the project "Conversion between Magnetic, Electric, and Thermal energies in phase-transforming materials (COMET)", funded by the Research Council of Norway. It is collaboration between UiO and SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, and involves three external partners: University of Minnesota (UoM), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The postdoctoral candidate will be working with prediction of transport properties of intermetallics and alloys based on density functional theory (DFT). It is expected that the candidate will perform a scientific visit to Caltech during the project.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in physics. Candidates without a PhD degree must complete the final exam before 30 June 2017.

A general background in materials science is required. Previous experience in DFT modelling is a significant advantage. Experience with transport calculations is an advantage.
