Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Post-doc position on transport and optical pheno ... (No replies)

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position at the Centro de
Física de Materiales (Materials Physics Center) in San Sebastián,
Spain.

The project will be supervised by Ivo Souza. The topic is
first-principles studies of transport and optical effects sensitive to
properties, such as structural chiraliry and antiferromagnetic order,
that are "invisible" to standard electromagnetic probes. Those effects
include magnetoelectric and quadrupolar couplings, natural optical
activity, directional dichroism, and nonlinear (magneto)transport.

The position is funded in part by a collaborative grant involving
several researchers in San Sebastián: the Nanodevices group of Luis
Hueso and Felix Casanova (Nanogune) on the experimental side, and
Fernando de Juan (Donostia International Physics Center) and Stepan
Tsirkin (Materials Physics Center) on the theory side.

Tasks and responsabilities:

The successful candidate will join the effort to develop and apply a
theoretical and computational framework for evaluating transport and
optical responses beyond the electric-dipole approximation, and/or
beyond linear response. The code development will build upon the
Wannier90 and WannierBerri post-processing packages, to which new
functionalities will be added. Other codes and methods may be brought
in as appropriate. The materials to be investigated include chiral
semiconductors, antiferromagnetic insulators, antiferromagnetic
metals, and possibly 2D materials.

There will be ample opportunities for establishing collaborations both
locally and internationally, and to present results at specialized
conferences and workshops. The successful candidate will also be
encouraged to develop his or her own research ideas and directions.

Qualifications:

Candidates should hold a PhD in physics, materials science, or related
fields. A strong background in solid state physics is required, as
well as experience with density-functional theory (DFT) calculations
and good programming skills. Some knowledge of the internals of
community DFT codes is highly desirable.

Salary and appointment terms:

The initial appointment will be for one year, with the option to renew
for a second year upon mutual agreement. The salary for the first year
will be 35.650,44 euros before taxes.

How to apply:

Suitable candidates can apply to this position by emailing to
[email protected] the following information before the 31st of May,
with the subject label "Postdoc CFM-Souza":

1- Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications.
2- Cover letter (max. 1 page).
3- Contact email of at least two potential referees.

Further information may be obtained from Ivo Souza at [email protected]
