Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Job description:

A one-year post-doc position on the development and application of real-time time-dependent  quantum approaches for the study of photoinduced fast and ultrafast electron dynamics in molecules and nanoparticles will be soon available in the Theoretical Chemistry and Spectroscopy group  at the University of Trieste (Italy). According to the expertise of the successful candidate, the project will be selected among the following:

  1. plasmonic enhancement of circular dichroism in chiral molecules interacting with metal nanoparticles;
  2. coupling nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom in high-harmonic generation spectroscopy of gas-phase molecules.

The postdoctoral position will be funded by the PRIN 2022 project “CHANGE - Chiral high-HArmonic GeNeration spEctroscopy of molecules in gas-phase”

Offer:

  • 1-year contract with a net salary of 2000 Euros/month, which allows an excellent living standard in Trieste. The cost of living and real estate in Trieste is moderate and the quality of life high.
  • We offer funding for the participation at summer schools, conferences and workshops.
  • The position will be at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of University of Trieste, in the Theoretical Chemistry and Spectroscopy group (https://www2.units.it/cf/), under the supervision of prof. Emanuele Coccia.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science.
  • Familiarity with the field of ultrafast spectroscopies of molecules and/or metal nanoparticles.
  • Familiarity with the field of quantum mechanical simulations such as DFT and TDDFT. Familiarity with real-time methods is considered a plus.
  • Ability to interpret/extract physical meanings from the results of the simulations.
  • Knowledge of at least one of Fortran, C, Python, C++ languages.
  • Ability to work effectively in a group as part of the team.

Your application must include:

  • A cover letter describing your motivation for the application (max. 1 page).
  • A CV with a complete description of your academic career and relevant skills (max. 2 pages).
