Post-doc position in Milan (No replies)
Back to Job listings...
One 18-month post-doctoral position (extendable) is available in the group of Modeling and Simulations of Semiconductor Heteroepitaxy at the Department of Materials Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milan, Italy).
The position is supported by an Italian PRIN 2022 project aimed at studying the pressure-induced phase transition in Si and Ge, particularly by using the nanoindentation, and in collaboration with a few experimental and theoretical groups, including the experimental support of Dr. Antonio Mio at CNR-IMM in Catania and Prof. Verena Maier-Kiener at the University of Leoben, and the collaboration with the Henkelman’s Theoretical Research Group (University of Texas at Austin).
The successful candidate will investigate, through DFT and or classical MD calculations, the crystalline phase transition in Si and Ge. The main goal is the modelling of the nanoindentation process with the goal of facilitating the transformation to the hexagonal diamond phase. This will be perused by a multiscale approach that includes the investigation of the transition path between different metastable phases of Si and Ge (by exploiting unique methods such as Solid-State NEB and Solid-State dimer method) together with classical MD simulations at larger scale and using/developing Neural Network interatomic potentials (see our recent publication: https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.actamat.2023.119465).
The starting date is February 2024, but could be slightly postponed if necessary.
The University of Milano-Bicocca is a young, international, dynamic and multidisciplinary university. It offers a campus with state-of-the-art facilities for researchers. It is located in Milan, the capital of Lombardy, which is amongst the most attractive and creative city in Europe, and the most dynamic and productive city in Italy.
