Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Activity: Use - and possible development – of scientific codes based on DFT for the study of the electronic, optical and transport properties of highly disordered solid-state systems (e.g. chalcogenides, metal oxides and metal glasses), with focus on the understanding of the phase change (amorphous/crystalline) processes, as function of the composition and doping, and the
effects that the latter have on the electrical and optical response of the system. Direct experience in
the study of amorphous materials, will be considered as preferential skills.

Research theme: “First principles simulations of amorphous systems for the modelling of
synaptic electronics devices (e.g. phase change memory) and nanophotonics” Call NANO AR 019-2023 MO as part of the EU Project “OpenModel” and of the Research project “Plasmonica in materiali disordinati”.

Scientific supervisor: Dr. Arrigo Calzolari

Qualification and experience:

 Master degree and PhD in physics, chemistry, material science, or related subjects;
 knowledge of scientific codes and methodologies for the simulation of solid-state physics
based on DFT;
 experience in the study of disordered systems, such as, e.g., defective and/or amorphous
materials;
 knowledge programming languages for scientific software (e.g. Fortran, C, C++, python)
and parallel computation (MPI);
 advanced knowledge of English language;
 some knowledge of Italian language.

Job Location: Istituto NANO - Modena
