Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Main research topics and duties:

Research on non-equilibrium dynamics in condensed matter systems, with focus on the ab initio description of electronic excitation and relaxation dynamics, specifically the theoretical description of electron-electron and electron-phonon scattering in thin films and two-dimensional materials.

Teaching assistance, including assistance during students’ exams and related administrative work.

The job offers opportunity for further scientific qualification.

Qualifications required:

Ph.D. degree in physics or theoretical chemistry, preferentially in the area of computational condensed matter physics or computational materials science. Documented experience in methods of atomistic quantum simulations of the electronic structure of low-dimensional systems, surfaces or interfaces.

Acquaintance with computers running under Unix/Linux and programming skills in Fortran, Python or C are required. Experience with codes for density functional theory calculations (VASP, Quantum Espresso, FHI-aims) and/or methods for treating electronically excited states (e.g. GW, TDDFT) would be ideal.

Proposed starting date:          Nov. 2st, 2020, or later

Salary:                                       13 TV-L (German salary scale), includes social benefits
