Open Positions: Flatiron Research Fellow (Postdoctoral Fellowship)

Center for Computational Quantum Physics Flatiron Institute – Simons Foundation

162 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10010

The Center for Computational Quantum Physics at the Flatiron Institute of the Simons Foundation anticipates making several Flatiron Research Fellow appointments. These positions are at the postdoctoral level; we welcome applications from individuals who are motivated to work in the vibrant atmosphere of a new institute and have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: theoretical condensed matter physics, materials science modelling, theoretical chemistry, applied mathematics and computer science.

The Flatiron Institute is a research unit established by the Simons foundation to advance scientific research through computational methods, including data analysis, modeling and simulation. The Center for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ) is the newest Flatiron unit; it began operations on Sept 4, 2017 with the aim of becoming a leading international center for the study of quantum physics phenomena and its applications to condensed matter physics, materials science, chemistry and related fields. The development of the concepts, methods, algorithms and codes needed to advance the field will be fundamental to the work of the Center. A broad range of research areas will be represented at CCQ, including many-body quantum physics, quantum chemistry, out-of- equilibrium quantum systems, materials with strong electronic correlations, strong light-matter interactions, etc. Over time, CCQ is expected to grow to about 50 members. Besides CCQ, the Flatiron Institute hosts the Center for Computational Astrophysics, the Center for Computational Biology, and a common scientific computing core.

The initial appointment of a Flatiron research Fellow is for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required.  The anticipated start date is between September 1, 2018, and December 31, 2018 but an earlier or later start date might be considered. Review of applications will begin Nov 15, 2017 and applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. The Flatiron Institute is in New York City and is an equal opportunity employer.
