The physics PhD program in computational materials theory at the University of North Texas is currently accepting applications in for Fall 2022.
We seek highly motivated students with career goals in condensed matter theory, high performance computing, and data-centric methods. Research areas at UNT physics include first-principles electronic structure, computational materials design and materials informatics, quantum computation, heterogeneous catalysis, physics of surfaces and low-dimensional materials, electron-phonon physics in superconductivity, linear and nonlinear optics, and topological phases.
All applications are considered on a rolling basis. PhD scholarships including tuition and salary are awarded to the most competitive candidates.

A complete application package includes two steps.
Step 1. To be submitted to the University of North Texas Toulouse Graduate School:
- Toulouse Graduate School online application https://goapplytexas.org/ + $75.00 registration fee.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
- (Optional) Official copy of the GRE scores (Verbal and Quantitative)
Step 2. To be emailed to the Department of Physics at [email protected]
- Two letters of reference.
- CV.
- Statement of Purpose. This is a letter of intent including the specific degree sought (MS or PhD); concentration or focus of program; faculty member contacted as prospective major advisor, if any; professional goals and objectives; why you chose UNT, and the Department of Physics; and why you chose the specific area of interest.
- Applicants whose native language is not English interested in teaching assistantships must provide scores on either the Internet Based TOEFL (iBT) speaking section or the Test of Spoken English (TSE).
Applications will be reviewed holistically, any missing application material might not be disqualifying by itself.
