Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Applications are invited from PhD candidates to join the Bioinspired Materials Modelling group in the Department of Chemistry at King’s College London (KCL). You will be supervised by Dr Micaela Matta. The start date is flexible between July and October 2022. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic group with a strong international collaborative network, developing the next generation of bioinspired polymers for healthcare applications.

Research Project

Organic bioelectronic devices are the next-generation of implantable, diagnostic or sensing devices. The objective of our group is to leverage computational modelling tools to understand the structure and properties of organic polymers for bioelectronics. We are particularly interested in developing biocompatible materials inspired by eumelanin, the black pigment in our skin, eyes and hair.

You will develop a computational screening toolset and library of materials for applications in bioelectronics. You will learn to use density functional theory, molecular dynamics, cheminformatics and machine learning tools to design and model the properties of novel bioinspired polymers.

How to Apply

The full PhD advert is available here.

Applications including a cover letter, a full up-to-date CV, together with the names and email addresses of two academic referees should be sent to Dr Micaela Matta ([email protected]). In the cover letter you should detail why you are interested in the position and how your skills, interests and background are a good match for this project.

The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found, however you are encouraged to submit early. As part of the selection process, short-listed candidates will be invited for a remote interview.

The Bioinspired Materials Modelling group is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Applications from under-represented groups in chemistry, including, but not limited to first-generation graduates, non traditional students, disabled, neurodiverse, female, gender-non-conforming, LGTBQIA+, black and minority ethnic candidates are particularly welcome.
