Applications are invited for a 4-year PhD studentship based at (1)
School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological
University, and (2) Department of Materials Science and Engineering,
Institute of High Performance Computing, to work in the area of
First-Principles Methods and Applications for the Hot-Carrier Solar
Cells. This is expected to start in Jan 2017.

The research focus will be on the detailed density-functional theory
and relaxation times for electron-phonon and electron-electron
interactions, Raman and thermal conduction studies, and femtosecond
time-resolved spectroscopy to investigate the origins and mechanisms
of hot-carriers bottleneck in solar cells. The theory will guide,
complementing support experimental work performed at the Prof. Tze
Chien Sum's group.

Qualifications and Eligibility

We are looking for a motivated candidate with a solid background in
physics, interested in code development, computational methods, good
command of written and spoken English. A previous background in
electronic structure methods such as density-functional theory would
be fundamental. Good knowledge of programming languages such as
Fortran, C, and Python is essential. Familiarity with Linux
environment and prior experience on electronic structure software such
as VASP, QUANTUM ESPRESSO is desired.

How to apply

Interested applicants should contact Dr. Chee Kwan Gan
([email protected]), providing an up-to-date CV, a letter of
motivation, and the names and contact details of at least two academic
referees.
